Take-Off
Central North Carolina
This barn owl was photographed at the moment of take-off. Also known as raptors or birds of prey, barn owls have excellent hearing and use echo location to locate prey. The barn owl has a white, heart-shaped face, giving it a distinctive, ghostlike appearance. This may be why barn owls are also called ghost owls or spirit owls. Barn owls mate for life. Makes a great gift for animal, wildlife, and bird lovers.
